India extends P25-M aid to PH

India has extended a P25-million assistance to the Philippine government for the relief and rehabilitation of war-torn Marawi City.

India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj earlier conveyed her deepest sympathies and condolences to Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano over the tragic loss of life and property in Marawi.

In a statement, the Embassy of India based in Makati City said Minister Swaraj  spoke with her Philippine counterpart on the telephone on July 6 about the situation in Marawi City.

The Indian minister also expressed  solidarity with the Filipino people in their fight against terrorism and offered India’s assistance to supplement the ongoing rehabilitation efforts.

The two ministers also discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest and concern, including the upcoming India-Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ Foreign Ministers Meeting to be held in Manila this August.

They also look forward to the East Asia Summit in November.
