MANILA, Philippines—About 150 Filipinos on China’s southeast coast province of Fujian joined the 13th Sports Barkadahan at the C&D Sports Complex in Xiamen City to celebrate Labor Day on May 1.

The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen said the event also served as an occasion to welcome the new Consul General to Xiamen, Adelio Angelito S. Cruz, who recently arrived in Xiamen to assume his post.

The sports festival was organized by the Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX), and gathered about 150 members of the three recognized Filipino Community organizations in Fujian province: FAX, Filipinos in Guanzhou, China and the Filipino Association in Fuzhou.

Cruz pledged his continued support to the community and encouraged everyone to approach the Consulate General should they need its assistance as it is open 24/7 to serve them.

Twelve teams composed of three players each competed in bowling. The team of Armand Aguilar, Leroy Ang and Angel Austria emerged victorious in the event.

In the badminton match, the father and son tandem of Henry Ding and Hennessey Ding overpowered the other 15 doubles teams.

The fist place in basketball was bagged by Team Subic led by Edmund Go.

Cruz said the whole-day event was filled with fun and fellowship, fulfilling the organizer’s ultimate goal-that is-for the Filipino community in Fujian to continue being one, big, happy and united family.
