MANILA — The Philippine Embassy in London said a yet unknown number of Filipinos were known to reside in the burning Grenfell Tower in the North Kensington district in west London, but the embassy was still checking on their condition as of Wednesday night.

Consul General Senen Mangalile said they received reports that some of the Filipino residents were taken to hospitals for treatment due to smoke inhalation and burns, while some others were able to flee the building unharmed.

“Our efforts now are to find out whether they have been brought to safety,” Mangalile said.

At least 3,000 Filipinos live in the district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in west London, according to the embassy.  SFM
