Malaysian nabbed for friend’s slay
MANILA, Philippines—Police arrested Saturday a Malaysian national for allegedly killing the friend whom he had a disagreement with near his house in Pasig City.
Senior Superintendent Jesse Cardona, chief of police, identified the suspect as Minn Yapp Fui, 50, a resident of Centennial 2 in Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
The victim was identified as Frederick Arellano.
Based on an initial investigation, Arellano and the Malaysian national had a big fight near the latter’s house past midnight, prompting Fui to attack the victim with a kitchen knife.
Arellano sustained two stab wounds, and was dead on the spot, police said.
The suspect, meanwhile, was taken into custody by responding authorities. He is now detained at the Pasig City Police main headquarters.
While investigators said there could be other motives in Arellano’s killing, Senior Police Officer 2 Roger Baltazar, case investigator, said jealousy was the most credible angle. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
