‘Unique’ OFW ID cards OK’d
The Duterte Cabinet approved on Tuesday the creation of an identification card system for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), a Palace official said.
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the issuance of a “unique” ID for OFWs was agreed during the Cabinet meeting in Malacañang.
He said the OFW ID cards would allow them to easily transact with government and private agencies and access their government records.
The ID, he said, could also be used as “debit card or ATM card” for the OFW bank.
The Palace official added that the card could also provide access to their records with government agencies and could also be used as “beep card” for the Metro Rail Transit and Light Rail Transit.
