PHNOM PENH— President Duterte stressed Tuesday night that he would not tolerate corruption in government even if his own friends are involved.
Mr. Duterte made the assertion as two Bureau of Immigration officials, who are his fraternity brothers, face allegations that they had received P50 million in bribe money from gambling tycoon Jack Lam.
“Corruption, it will stop. Wala akong papatawarin maski kaibigan ko (Nobody will be excused even if they are my friends). It will stop,” he said.
He indicated that the superiors of those who commit corruption might even have to go as well, stressing: “I am sorry, maybe even you would have to resign kasi iyan ang pangako ko (because that’s what I’ve promised),” he said.
