Canada gives P163M for mothers, kids

THE CANADIAN government has donated P163 million  to poor towns in Camarines Sur to address the health and nutrition needs of thousands of women and children.

Canadian Ambassador Neil Reeder said the grant was for the project Enhance Mother, Newborn and Child Health in Remote Areas through Health Care and Community Engagement (Embrace) that aims to reduce stunting and maternal child mortality in hard-to-reach places in Camarines Sur.

Reeder was in Pili during the recent launch of the project that received $4.8 million Canadian dollars or approximately P136 million from the government of Canada.

The project aims to benefit women of reproductive age, newborns and children under 5 in over 4,200 households in the towns of Garchitorena, San Jose, Presentacion and Calabanga in Camarines Sur.
