Austrian tourist drowns in Mountain Province

BAGUIO CITY — An Austrian tourist drowned on Tuesday (Aug. 2) in a water rafting accident along the Chico River in Bontoc, Mountain Province.

Judith Kiesl and five other foreigners fell off a boat that flipped over when it struck a rock at 10 a.m. near the Bontoc Ili village, police reports said.

The visitors were pulled out of the river and were rushed to the Bontoc General Hospital. But Kiesl was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.

The identities of the other tourists have not been released at press time.  SFM
