Foreign vessel runs aground off Cebu town

CEBU CITY — A foreign-registered vessel  ran aground off Monad Shoal in Daanbantayan town, 131 kilometers north of here, on Monday morning.

The Philippine Coast Guard-Cebu station said a Bantay Dagat team received a report about the ship accident around 8 a.m.

PCG Cebu station commander Agapito Bibat identified the vessel as the MV Belle Rose, which carried the flag of Panama.

Bibat said that based on initial information they received, the ship came from Japan and was headed to San Fernando carrying sacks of cement.

“Our team from the Hagnaya substation is headed to Monad Shoal to investigate the incident,” Bibat said.  SFM
