3 PH films showing in Euro Asia Shorts Film Festival ‘16
WASHINGTON, DC – Three Filipino short films will be shown in this year’s Euro Asia Shorts, an annual weeklong film festival showcasing short productions from Europe, Asia and the United States.
The films will be screened at embassies and cultural centers throughout the capital from June 6 to 10.
Participating countries this year are Germany, China, Spain, the Philippines, Japan, France, Italy, Korea and the United States.
Filipino filmmakers Paolo Dy, Gino Jose and Jedd Rommel will showcase their works under this year’s theme of “What is Home?,” which focuses on “belonging” and memories of home as sources of both comfort and pain. Below are the three films from the Philippines:
CREATIVE LICENSE
2010, 5 minutes

Written, shot and edited all within 24 hours, “Creative License” is a humorous yet poignant reflection on the experience of living in a foreign land, and how it affects one’s relationship with the people one left back home. Winner of the 2010 US National 24Hr Filmracing Competition and the Philippines’ NCCA Ani Ng Dangal Award.

WAIVERS
2015, 16 minutes
Director: Gino Jose
After a nuclear explosion levels Manila, mining companies hire survivors to burrow into the ruins for radioactive materials. We follow two of those survivors, Amy and Janis, as they go about their day with humor and positivity despite the fact that the job is practically a death sentence.
THE DREAMWEAVER
2012, 4 minutes
Director: Jedd Rommel
A young T’boli boy is visited in his dreams by Fudalu, the spirit of the abaca hemp, who appears only to the females of the tribe and bestows upon them the exclusive talent and creativity in weaving the tribe’s sacred cloth. This dream encounter takes him on a journey that defies his culture and its traditions.
This is the second time that the Philippines will join the film festival, which is now on its 11th year. The first four nights of the festival will feature short films from two countries, one Asian and one European, while the fifth and closing night will feature films from all participating countries. The Philippines’ first two entries, “Creative License” and “Waivers” will be shown on the second night, 07 June, 6:30 pm at the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain while Jedd Rommel’s “The Dreamweaver” will be featured during the closing night on 10 June, 7:30 pm at the Embassy of Italy.
