Shouldering his tennis gear, RB returns home from a match with a spring in his step.

Originally from the Philippines, the 73-year-old came to the US in the 1970s to pursue his own American Dream. “This is, I believe, the best place to better your life”, he says.

RB has built a successful career as a civil engineer working for the state of California, settling down outside Los Angeles with his family.

The tennis trophies around his home speak of his competitive spirit and drive for success.

All the while, RB attends to his roots and connections in the Philippines. He embodies the fine traits of so many other Filipinos living abroad – generosity, dedication and a culture of caring.

Even after more than 30 years in California, he makes a point of going back to the Philippines whenever he can and regularly sends money home to his relatives and friends.

“I’m helping a lot of people and I’m making a lot of people happy” RB says, immediately adding that he’s one of many: “That’s pretty much a general Filipino culture, to help their family.”
