Applications for YFPA scholarships now being accepted

SAN FRANCISCO–Applications for YFPA scholarships are now being accepted until April 1, 2016.

The YPFA Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to college-bound students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership potential and strength of character.

Scholarships will be awarded to students within the San Francisco Bay Area who are involved with the Filipino community.

Eligibility requirements:

FEATURED STORIES
  1. Be a graduating college-bound high school senior
  2. Attend a high school within a 50-mile radius of San Francisco, California
  3. Have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher upon graduation
  4. Have been accepted to a 4-year college at the time of scholarship is awarded
  5. If chosen as a finalist, attend a 30-minute face-to-face interview with the YFPA Scholarship Panel
  6. If selected as a recipient, attend the YFPA Scholarship Awards Night in May

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, leadership experience, educational and career goals, essay quality — which includes originality, grammar and organization — and financial need. All shortlisted applicants will be invited to an in-person panel interview.

In 2015, YFPA’s program provided 2 scholarships worth $2,500 each. This year, it is looking to provide 2 scholarships with a higher monetary value.

During the holidays, YFPA partnered with several community supporters who helped raised the funds including Westernunion.com. Ramar Foods International and iHeartMedia Inc..

Interested applicants can start by:

  1. Submitting (2) Letters of Recommendation from a teacher, school counselor or community leader. Letters of recommendation used for college applications may be used and must contain contact details of the recommender (phone and email).
  2. Proof of college acceptance or current student enrollment
  3. Most recent official high school transcript with a minimum of 3.5 GPA (cumulative)
  4. Personal Essay
  5. Completed Eligibility Form

Your Filipino Professionals Association (YFPA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was launched in 2002 as a collaborative forum for Filipino-American professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area to connect, collaborate and support professional networking, educational and community service activities.
