Korean-American nabbed during drug raid in General Santos City

KORONADAL CITY—Anti-drug agents on Thursday arrested a Korean-American during a raid in General Santos City.

Lyndon Aspacio, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (Pdea) in Central Mindanao, identified the suspect as Hyun Seong Hong of 2710 Park Way Irvine in California.

Aspacio said anti-narcotics agents raided a hotel, where Hyun had just checked in. He did not resist arrest.

He said Hyun—who married a Filipino and operates a food business in the city—was a Pdea value target.

He said the raiding team, armed with a search warrant, seized 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (“shabu”) with a market value of P75,000, aluminum foil and several other shabu paraphernalia from Hyun.

Aspacio said the suspect has been under surveillance for more than two weeks and the raid was conducted after a Pdea agent, posing as buyer, managed to secure illegal drug from Hyun.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were now being prepared against the suspect—who was currently being detained at the Pdea detention cell in General Santos City, Aspacio said. RAM
