Qatar grants clemency to 10 overseas Filipinos
At least 10 Filipinos were granted clemency by the Qatar government during its national day last December 18.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday that “clemency was extended to 10 incarcerated overseas Filipinos,” which include nine males and one female.
DFA said the clemency was issued by the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The Emir usually issues pardons twice a year, the other during the holy month of Ramadan, DFA added.
“Those granted clemency is often those who have already served a substantial portion of their sentences,” the DFA said in a statement.
The agency said the Philippine embassy in Qatar is now in the process of facilitating their repatriation in coordination with the Search and Follow-Up Department under the Ministry of Interior of Qatar.
