Drilon on UN body contention: PH laws govern Arroyo trial
Former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is being tried in accordance with the Philippine laws.
This was how Senate President Franklin Drilon responded to the reported findings of the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention that Arroyo’s detention for plunder was politically motivated.
Drilon, former Justice Secretary, initially refused to comment on the issue, saying he has not seen yet the report.
But when asked about the group’s reported finding that the former leader’s detention was politically motivated, he said: “I don’t know about that. We have our laws; she’s being tried in accordance with our laws.” IDL
