“I now confirm that here in the Philippines, Western Union have managed to construct a coin mosaic measuring a grand total of 252.78,” Brockbank said, adding that this broke the previous record of 156 square meters in the US.

Patricia Riingen, Western Union Vice President for Southeast Asia and Oceania Region, said they are happy to have achieved a world record.

“We are happy to have achieved this record of building a mosaic and beating the world record to achieve the Guinness World Record for the largest coin mosaic,” Riingen said.

The mosaic, which forms the company’s 25th anniversary logo, was formed with P10, P5, P1, 25-centavo and 10-centavo coins.

“Forming the coin mosaic is our way of giving back to the Filipino people–the people who have helped us what we are today,” Riingen said.

She said the value of the coin mosaic, which was not disclosed, would fund the development of elementary public school students through multimedia tools and resources.

She said the total value of the coin mosaic is part of the P3.5 million that the Western Union would be using for its Technology Aiding the Nation’s Youth to Accelerate Growth program (Tanyag).

Western Union has tapped the Knowledge Channel Foundation in providing 25 public schools with a multimedia package, which consists of LED television with set of speakers and a laptop preloaded with Knowledge Channel’s educational videos.

Western Union thanked the Filipinos and assured to bring “a better life for the Filipinos through financial progress.”
