Fil-Am’s run for Jacksonville, Florida council seat gains momentum
JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A Filipino American accountant and political newcomer’s quest for a city council seat is gaining traction, backed by the local business community and a campaign that’s raised more money than any other council candidate in the coming mayor and city council elections on May 19.
In the primary election for the at-large Group 1 seat, Anna Lopez Brosche, a Republican, and the incumbent, Kimberly Daniels (Democrat), advanced past Terry Reed (D) and David A. Taylor (R).[2] Daniels will face Brosche in the general election.
The Florida Times Union editorial board endorsed Brosche, stating she “is one of the most impressive candidates this editorial board has interviewed. She is a CPA with business experience, is chair of the United Way board and has outstanding communications skills.”
The newspaper described incumbent Daniels’ first term in office as “the most disappointing among the 19 members. Her achievements are not impressive.” It added: “There is no greater gap between candidates in this election than this one. Jacksonville needs Brosche in office.”
Brosche is the daughter of a Filipino who joined the Navy and eventually gained US citizenship. She was born in Jacksonville at the Navy hospital. She got her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of North Florida (UNF), and later, a Master of Accountancy from UNF.
