Long Beach police and fire personnel responding to a report that a body could be seen floating in the Los Angeles River found the body of Greg Ariola Almodovar, in the river’s shallow water and the rough vegetation growing alongside the riverbed, according to a report by the Press Telegram .
Police said Almodovar was last seen on the night of December 3. His vehicle was found the following day near the crossing of Willow Avenue and the 710 Freeway, after family members turned on the GPS function of his cell phone.
The cause of death is still under investigation, according to Long Beach police. Although Almodovar was troubled by depression during the final years of his life, detectives found no evidence of suicide during their search.
Greg Almodovar was clinically diagnosed with depression some two years ago, Jonie, one of his siblings said, but was more likely to show the vibrant side of his personality during earlier years.
