More public rides sought for Naia 3 arrivals

MANILA, Philippines—The Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) has asked land transport officials to allow public utility buses to make stops at the newly rehabilitated Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) and help address the shortage of rides for arriving passengers.

Miaa General Manager Jose Angel Honrado on Wednesday said his office had asked the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to grant franchises that would allow three bus companies to ply “special routes” covering Terminal 3, Mall of Asia in Pasay City and Bonifacio Global City.

The move intends to address the long queues of passengers waiting for taxicabs at Naia 3 especially during rush hours.

At present, only jeepneys are allowed to pick up passengers at stops closest to the terminal. The scarcity of public utility vehicles recently prompted the MIAA to allow regular taxis at the terminal, to augment airport-accredited cabs.
