MANILA, Philippines—He’s the mastermind behind the “Greatest Escape,” and he has returned home.
After the Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force rejected his resignation papers, the head of the Filipino UN Peacekeepers in Golan Heights have returned to the Philippines.
Colonel Ezra Enriquez arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 Wednesday late afternoon after the Philippine Government heeded to his request for repatriation.
Enriquez offered his resignation to Lieutenant General Iqbal Singh Singha after losing faith in the Force Commander when the latter allegedly ordered the Filipino UN Peacekeepers to drop their arms for the supposed safe release of the Fijian UN Peacekeepers from Syrian rebels.
Major General Domingo Tutaan, Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman, Enriquez, the Undof Chief of Staff, would still report to General Gregorio Pio Catapang.
“He requested to be reptriated, and he still has to report himself to the AFP Chief of Staff,” Tutaan said.
He added that the AFP would give its official statement on the return after Enriquez reports to Catapang.
