Filipina mom’s death in Jersey City ruled suspicious

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – Monica Garcia Montone, a 34-year-old Filipina mother, was found dead inside a home owned by a former Jersey City police officer in the quiet Country Village section of Jersey City August 18, reports the Jersey Journal.

Police ruled her death as suspicious.

A small child was removed and taken away in an ambulance from 124 Sycamore Rd., where a man identified Kevin Montone, the victim’s husband was taken away by police after exhibiting odd behavior. The man was laughing uncontrollably when police put him in the car, a neighbor told the Jersey Journal.

Her son appeared in Central Judicial Processing Court August 19 in Jersey City on the charges of possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of heroin within 1,000 feet of school property, a criminal complaint says.

Kevin Montone, who was arrested yesterday, is also charged with possession of a prescription drug that was not obtained from a practitioner under a valid prescription, the complaint says.

He has not been charged in connection to his wife’s death.

At the hearing, Montone’s bail was set at $35,000 with a 10 percent cash option. He made no comments during the hearing, at which he was represented by the public defender.
