MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) released photos Thursday of Mabini Reef (Johnson South Reef) showing China’s reclamation activities on the disputed area.
“This series of photographs, which were released by the DFA and gathered from Philippine intelligence sources, shows in stages the extensive reclamation by China on Mabini Reef (Johnson South Reef),” the DFA said in a statement.
“These actions are considered destabilizing and in violation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) and international law,” it said.
The DFA on Wednesday said that it had filed a diplomatic protest against China on April 4, 2014 for building a possible airstrip in the disputed area.
China claims the entire South China Sea, including parts of the Philippines 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone.
