Rome, Italy - The International Project Management Association (IPMA), the world’s first and leading non-profit professional project management organization, has announced that Edward Logan, a Filipino-American living in Virginia, winner of the 2008 IPMA International Young Project Manager Award.

Edward Logan, Deputy Program Manager for the US government contractor ManTech International in Virginia, USA, was selected for his superior work performance in the application of project management principles and techniques at the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), a federal agency under the Department of Commerce.

Edward is an active member of the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management (asapm) and co-led the establishment of the IPMA Young Crew-USA. He has also served as a president of the project management student association at the George Washington University School of Business.

Edward is one of the first project managers from the US to reach the finals and win this international competition – competing against delegates from 51 other countries. His successful nomination reflects growing global interest in the application of project management principles in many projects.

The award was presented at the 22nd IPMA World Congress in Rome, Italy. His accomplishments were recognized at the IPMA Young Project Manager's award ceremony on 7 November 2008, part of the Young Crew Workshops in Rome. Those workshops included some 30 nationalities and over 100 participants.

Edward presented details about his winning project to the attentive project management student- and practitioner-participants. This year, the IPMA Young Crew workshop curriculum had the special title “Project Management Improvement by Human Skills, Risk Management and Control.”

The second-prize winner was Andrey Belozerov from Russia and the 3rd place winner, Imran Malik from United Arab Emirates (UAE). All finalists also received IPMA sponsorship to the congress.

The IPMA International Young Project Manager Award was instituted in 2006 to recognize rising young talents. It is awarded to individuals who, despite being in the early stages of their project management careers, are already demonstrating that they can make a difference to the profession and to the companies and clients for whom they work.

The Award is open to project managers aged up to 35 years at the time of entry. The criteria for evaluation are based upon the IPMA Competence Baseline (ICB), the International framework for Project and Program Management Competence.

Young Crew is a key component of IPMA’s strategy for the growth and nurturing of project management leaders of tomorrow. The main goals of the IPMA Young Crew initiative are to provide opportunities for project management knowledge and experimental learning, identify the unique needs of the young PM practitioner, interaction and information exchange.

For many years, IPMA has recognized the need to develop the youth by organizing workshops for young professionals and students of project management.

Founded in 1967 and registered in Switzerland, the International Project Management Association (IPMA) is an international federation of more than 45 national PM societies in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Its annual world congress is one of the largest and most important gatherings of project management authorities and industry leaders.

IPMA and its member associations also present awards to International and National project teams that prove the achievement of great feats in the field. By recognizing managers and teams who prove their success in the field, the IPMA seeks to set an important and innovative example.

IPMA president for 2008 is Veikko Valila; president-elect for 2009/10 is Brigitte Schaden. For more information about IPMA, visit www.ipma.ch.
