MAASIN CITY -- The employer of Diosdado Getes Buhangin, the Filipino overseas worker who died in a helicopter crash at an oil rig off Dubai, promised to send home his body and give assistance to his family, his wife, Vilma, said on Monday.

"The employer and the Department of Foreign Affairs [DFA] already contacted me and assured me of the repatriation of my husband Diosdado," Vilma told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a mobile phone interview Monday morning.

She said she was not yet told if she would have to go to Dubai to fetch the remains of her husband or if she should just wait for his body in the country.

"But I was told to get a passport," Vilma said, adding that she was on her way to the DFA office to process her passport when interviewed.

"I was told they have not identified the body of my husband," she said.

Vilma added that the employer promised her of more information on Thursday.

Presciosa B. Bayron, surrogate mother of Diosdado and only brother Ursulo, said she was troubled by the fact that the victim’s body had not been officially identified.

"I was informed the body of Diosdado has not been identified and would be repatriated on Thursday," Bayron said. The Buhangin siblings were under her care when they were still young.

Buhangin, who hailed from Anahawan town, Southern Leyte, was among the seven fatalities when the pilot lost control of a helicopter carrying five passengers and another crewmember during take off, hitting a crane before crashing near the Resilient Maersk jack-up drilling rig near the Rashid oilfield off the Dubai coast last September 4.
