PNP beefs up security at US Embassy

MANILA, Philippines—Additional police forces will beef up security at the US Embassy in Manila amid fears of reprisals after Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed by US troops in Pakistan Monday, the Philippine National Police said.

At the same time, police forces in Mindanao and the PNP’s support units like the Special Action Force, Maritime Group, Aviation Security Group, the National Capital Region Police Office have been placed on full alert, said PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.

Cruz said that terror groups in the Philippines have no history of retaliatory attacks even as he maintained there should be no room for complacency.

Cruz said police would be patrolling embassies, especially the US Embassy along Roxas Boulevard.
