MANILA, Philippines?Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, second daughter of Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of the Royal Kingdom of Thailand, will be paying an official visit to the Philippines from November 15-18.
Princess Sirindhorn will attend the 6th International Rice Symposium on November 16 upon the invitation of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). This year also marks the 10th anniversary of royal patronage of King Bhumibol Adulyadej who was invited to be the patron of IRRI.
The Princess? visit is also the highlight of the year-long celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Thailand diplomatic relations.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will host a dinner for the Thai Princess in Malacanang on November 16. The following day, Princess Sirindhorn will be conferred a Doctor of Law Degree (Honoris Causa) by the University of the Philippines in Los Baños. The Princess is also expected to tour the University?s facilities.
While in Los Baños, Princess Sirindhorn will visit IRRI and grace its 50th anniversary, the Philippine Rice Research Institute, the Philippine Carabao Center, and the Asean Center for Biodiversity.
This will be the second visit of Princess Sirindhorn to the Philippines. She visited Manila for the first time in August 1991 upon the invitation of the late President Corazon Aquino and to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service in recognition of her patronage and promotion of Thai culture and traditions, advocacies in education and children?s welfare.
The princess is also the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for her philanthropic work and for her patronage of culture and the arts and sponsorship of various fields of science.
