Charges filed vs 3 illegal recruiters

DIGOS CITY ? Police have filed illegal recruitment and trafficking charges against three alleged members of a suspected illegal recruitment syndicate that has been carrying out its activities on the Internet, an official said.

Senior Inspector Rodel Calo, head of the local Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police, said the charges against Brendhaly Lucero, Jocelyn Yamomo and Elizabeth Velila, were filed Thursday with the Davao del Sur provincial prosecutor?s office following complaints lodged by several victims.

Calo said the operation lured job hunters into paying from P19,000 to P40,000 ostensibly as fees for placement in jobs in Macau.

?The complainants said that [the suspects] use the Internet,? Calo said.

After paying the fees, according to Calo, job applicants are flown to Manila and then on to Macau.

"The suspects have contacts in Manila that will pick the victims from the airport. In Macau, another contact will take them to a boarding house there,? Calo said. Once there, however, they are left on their own, he added.

One of the victims, identified only as Henry, said he had to do menial jobs in Macau so he could earn enough money to return to the Philippines.
