MANILA, Philippines -- Somali pirates freed the 26-man all-Filipino crew of the freighter M/T Centauri late Thursday night, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday.
In a text message, DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Esteban Conejos Jr. said all the crew members are "in good condition."
Citing a report from the shipping principals of the Greek-owned freighter, Conejos said the vessel is on its way to Mombassa, Kenya to unload its cargo.
He said the DFA is coordinating with ship owners on the repatriation of the Filipino seamen.
With the release of the 26 seamen, 108 Filipinos in seven ships remain captive by the pirates: M/T Captain Stefanos, hijacked September 21, with 17; M/T African Sanderling, October 15, with 21; M/T Stolt Strength, November 10, with 23; F/B Tianyu #8, November 14, with three; M/V Sirius Star, November 15, with 19; and M/V Chemstar Venus, November 16, with 18; M/V Delight, November 18, seven.
