MANILA, Philippines -- For the third consecutive day, Somali pirates released on Friday another hijacked ship with two Filipino seafarers, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Saturday.
This brings down to 45 the number of Filipino seamen still being held captive by Somali pirates.
In a text message, DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Esteban Conejos Jr. confirmed that Iranian bulk carrier M/V Iran Deyanat, seized off the lawless Somalia last August 21, was freed Friday, along with its 29-man crew, including two Filipino seamen, and is now heading towards Muscat, Oman, arriving there either Monday or Tuesday.
He identified the two Filipino seamen as able-bodied seamen Sergio Paloma, 44, of Leyte, and Reynaldo Uy Jr., 30, of Davao.
"All crew members, including the two Filipinos, are reported safe and in good condition. DFA is now coordinating with ship owners the repatriation of the Filipino seamen," he said.
