MANILA, Philippines -- The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested a German wanted in his country for massive computer fraud that victimized thousands of investors.
BI commissioner Marcelino Libanan said Peter Uwe Muller was arrested Friday by personnel of the bureau’s law enforcement division in his home at Sandico Street, Diamond Subdivision, Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga.
He is detained at the Bicutan immigration jail.
Libanan said Muller will be sent out of the country immediately once the BI board of commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation.
Muller's passport was cancelled by the German government on September 12, making him an undocumented and illegally staying alien.
Libanan said he issued the mission order for Muller's arrest after the German embassy in Manila sought the BI's help to locate and deport the fugitive.
Muller is supposed to be tried before a local court in Dresden, Germany, where he has been charged.
He is accused of cheating thousands of German and European investors through fraudulent Internet trading transactions from 2001 to 2006.
BI records show Muller last arrived in the country on January 7 this year and was admitted as a Balikbayan [returning citizen] because of his marriage to a Filipina.
