MANILA, Philippines -- A man forlorn over his wife who works abroad has shot himself in Marikina city.

Gary Marcelino, 36, and a resident of the village of San Roque, killed himself on Monday morning after leaving his two children to the care of his father, the Marikina city police reported.

Marcelino, who used a 9 millimeter gun to shoot himself at close range, was found by his father inside his room at about 8 a.m. Monday morning.

The deceased's father, Benjamin Marcelino, said that his son entrusted his grandchildren to him earlier that morning, saying only that he had to go somewhere and was not coming back.

But shortly after his son entered his room, he said, they heard gunshots. They then found the bloodied body of Gary lying on his bed with a suicide note.

The elder Marcelino told police that Gary had a problem with his wife who has been working abroad.
