THE NOKIA RP Under-16 squad continued their impressive run heading into the FIBA-Asia U-16 Championships as they defeated the taller Iran, 83-81, yesterday in the Nokia Pilipinas 2nd Youth Invitational Basketball Championships at the University of San Carlos (USC) Gym.

Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena was again at the center of the offensive storm as he led the Nationals with 29 points while Cris Tolomia scored 17 markers.

Soheil Yousefi topped Iran with 21 points. The two squads will meet again today for the championship of the tournament.

But it was RP’s 87-55 rout of Chinese Taipei Friday night that mattered most as it assured the team of a championship berth.

Yesterday’s first game saw Japan get its first win after defeating Chinese Taipei, 72-68.

Yuto Aratani led the way for the winners with 23 points while Taiki Uehara contributed 22. The same teams will face off for third place.
