DSCPI Ranking tilt draws close to 500 local, foreign dancers

Close to 500 dancesport athletes from all over the country and the rest of the world are expected to converge at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino Grand Pacific Ballroom when the Dancesport Council of the Philippines inc (DSCPI) holds the Mid-Year Ranking and Competition here this Saturday.
The event has already attracted double the usual number of participants as they normally do in Manila with 229 couples already signed up with the DSCPI working committee headed by chairperson Ma. Victoria Yulo. The bulk of the athletes come from the homefront as more than a 100 couples will be representing Cebu, mostly graduates of the summer Dancesport sa Barangay program of Dancesport-Team Cebu City.
The rest of the athletes come from Northern Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao including General Santos and Davao cities. Foreign athletes are also expected to pour in from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore to pair with local dancers in the Teacher-Student and Special Event categories.
The athletes will compete in 40 categories in the Standard and Latin Disciplines: Ten Dance (for all Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep, Samba Chachacha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive dances); Standard and Latin each for - Teacher-Student A (five dance), Teacher Student C (three dance), Special Event (three dance) 1M, Special Event 1F, Special Event 2M, Special Event 2F, Juvenile (two dance), Junior A (five dance), Junior C (three dance), Youth A (five dance), Youth C f(three dance), Senior A (both over 35 years, five dance), Senior C (both over 35 years, three dance), Grand Senior (both over 55 years, two dance), Grades A (five dance), B (four dance), C (three dance), D (two dance) and E (one dance).
The panel of adjudicators include Mr. Chan Chi Wing (HongKong), Ms. Liudmila Zakrzhevskaya (Kyrgyztan), Mr. John Tan (Singapore), Mr. Hitoshi Harada (Japan) and Ms. Gloria Alcala (Philippines).
The 2008 DanceSport Council of the Philippines (DSCPI) Midyear Ranking & Competition is co-presented by the Cebu City Government, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala, Alaxan FR with gold sponsors Department of Tourism, National Commission for Culture & the Arts, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, PAGCOR, Port Seafood Restaurant, Panasonic and Sulpicio Lines.
