All Saints’ Day peaceful–police

NO violent incidents were reported in cemeteries in Cebu City and other parts of the province yesterday.

Policemen, who were visible in public graveyards during All Saints? Day, siezed at least 77 sharp-edged objects from people at the cemetereis in Cebu City as of 12 noon.

The articles were mostly bolos, knives , paint scrapers, scissors and cutters used for cleaning tombs.

Police Regional Office (PRO-7) Regional Director Chief Supt. Ronald Roderos assessed the day?s activities as generally peaceful.

Some cemeteries had closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras positioned at the entrance to monitor crowd movements.

Policemen joined barangay tanods, civilian volunteers and motorcycle-riding policemen manned the streets.

Members of the 78th Infantry Battalion were also sent to secure cemeteries in Cebu City, and towns of Asturias, Balamban, Tabuelan and Sogod.
