THE weather bureau's forecast of scattered rainshowers during the weekend is bad news to residents of landslide-hit sitio Nangka, barangay Sinsin, Cebu City residents.
The 41 families had yet to leave the area in the absence of a relocation site. They are also waiting for the P5,000 aid promised by city government.
Councilor Gerry Carillo on Friday recommended that the families immediately leave the area.
Those who supported the recommendation included representatives of the Mines and Geo Sciences Bureau in Central Visayas (MGB-7) and City's Disaster Coordinating Council.
Lita Cabilles, 49, one of affected residents, said on Thursday that she and her family are gripped with fear when it rains.
Cabilles said they had two huts – one at the foot of the hill near the landslide area and the other on top of the hill in sitio Nangka.
She said they had to tend to their plots at the foot of the hill planted with egglants, squash and ampalaya.
She said that if it rains her family would head to their other hut on top of the hill.
Wilson Abastes, who also lives below the landslide area, earlier asked when the help would come.
Alberta Mercado fears for a growing crack on the ground near her house. She was afraid that the ground would give way someday.
The report from the MGB investigators who inspected the area showed that the water could easily seep into the bedrock of the sloped area during rainy periods.
According the documents sent by Carillo to , the fractured bedrock may not hold enough water and might trigger another landslide if the rains will continue. Correspondent Hayde D. Quinanola with a report from Correspondent Marian Z. Codilla
