CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu City Assistant Prosecutor Fernando Gubalane is moving to a new office after he received a fax copy of his appointment as the new Regional State Prosecutor (RSP) for Region 7 on Tuesday.
He left for Manila on Tuesday to get the original appointment papers signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and to take his oath before Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales.
Cebu City Assistant Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro said that colleagues of Gubalane at the City Prosecutor's Office are already preparing a streamer to congratulate him for his new post.
Gubalane was earlier endorsed for the job by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
Acting RSP Llena Ipong-Avila said that she learned that the appointment paper of Gubalane was signed by the President on February 4.
Avila, who has been acting RSP since October, said she was happy that the President already appointed a full-time RSP for the region.
Avila is one of the four applicants for RSP being endorsed by the DOJ to Malacañang.
The other applicant is private lawyer Perla Centino.
Avila said she hopes Gubalane will give prime attention to the resolution of appeals involving drug cases. /Reporter Nilda Gallo
