Cebu, Philippines ? Pelagio Apostol will start his new stint as the newly appointed Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas on Tuesday by going to Iloilo City, Iloilo, to attend an assembly of Visayas-based Ombudsmen there.
Ombudsman Director for the Visayas Virginia Palanca-Santiago said Apostol has been in Iloilo since Monday. He went early so that he could visit his hometown Antique before attending the assembly, which starts on Wednesday.
?His schedule was supposed to bring him to Cebu, but we told him to come straight to Iloilo,? said Santiago, who was also in Iloilo on Monday. ?He will come over to meet all the resident Ombudsmen.?
The assembly of ombudsmen from all over the Visayas is scheduled from August 22 to 24.
Around 150 ombudsmen from Eastern, Central and Western Visayas will converge in Iloilo City on Wednesday to discuss internal matters, as well as to carry out medical and dental missions.
Santiago said Overall Deputy Ombudsman Rolando Casimiro is scheduled to attend the assembly as guest speaker. Ombudsman Maria Merceditas Gutierrez is not expected to attend.
Apostol was appointed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to replace Primo Miro, who retired earlier this year.
In an earlier interview, Apostol said he would continue the programs and projects of Miro.
Santiago said Apostol had taken his oath of office at the Ombudsman?s central office.
