POLICE yesterday went to the house of Joavan Fernandez to serve an arrest warrant against him but went home empty handed.
The controversial son of Talisay Mayor Socrates Fernandez was not around when operatives of the Lapu-Lapu police arrived in his home in barangay Bulacao about 1 p.m.
Socrates later arrived and told the police that they had posted bail of P60,000 for his son?s temporary liberty.
George Bragat, Joavan?s lawyer, said the implementation of the arrest warrant was moot and academic since his client had posted bail.
Bragat said a release order was signed by Lapu-Lapu City Executive Judge Victor Teves.
Lapu-Lapu police arrested Joavan and his companions on Sept. 22 after a brief chase when they noticed that it was driving on the opposite late with the sirens on.
Joavan was forced to stop driving after the police cornered him near the Mactan Cebu International Airport.
When the police saw a gun on the vehicle, they moved in to arrest Joavan and his companions identified as Quazar Bacaltos Quiachon, Alinor Mamao Andingan, Mark Ryan Vega Alcover and Wilfredo Abellana Vega.
Packs of suspected shabu and drug sniffing paraphernalia were also found in the vehicle.
Joavan had told the police that he was on his way to the airport to pick up his father.
But the police proceeded to file illegal possession of firearms and drug charges against Joavan.
Joavan was released after posting bail for drug charges.
The arrest warrant on the illegal possession of firearms was issued later.
