THE police chief of Consolacion town has been relieved from his post upon the request of the mayor.
Senior Insp. Jesus Elmer Fernandez was transferred to Sibonga town, southern Cebu starting Aug. 1 where he would serve as police chief.
His transfer stemmed from the letter request of Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob who wanted Fernandez replaced.
Senior Supt. Jesus Gaquing, Cebu provincial police director, said the letter did not indicate the reason why Gungob wanted Fernandez out.
Still, Gaquing acceded to the request and designated Supt. Renato Malazarte as new Consolacion police chief.
Gaquing said that before he received Gungob?s letter, Fernandez had sought for his transfer since he had been Consolacion police chief for over a year.
Gaquing said he was satisfied with Fernandez's performance in Consolacion.
But he said he granted the request of Gungob to maintain a harmonious relationship between the mayor and the Consolacion police.
Gaquing refused to comment on reports that Gungob sought for Fernandez's relief after the mayor 's brother, Joselito Gungob, was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm.
Joselito was arrested by Carmen police at a checkpoint last month. /Correspondent Fe Marie Dumaboc
