CEBU CITY, Philippines - A municipal administrator in San Francisco town on Camotes Island, a northern island of Cebu, and 10 others were arrested for their alleged involvement in ?masiao,? an illegal numbers game.

Rey Tindoy was arrested after masiao paraphernalia was found in his house in Barangay (village) Western Poblacion during a raid conducted by the operatives of the Provincial Intelligence and Investigation Branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).

The raid was headed by Chief Inspector Elma delos Santos.

Before the raid on Tindoy's house, police also raided two other houses in the same barangay.

The house of Luden Tampus was raided about 11:50 a.m. Arrested were Lito Tampus, Erwin Arquillanoi, Romeo Bucog and Napoleon Lawas. They were caught playing ?tong-its,? a card game.

Luden was not at home during the raid.

Before the raid on Luden's house, the house of Silvestre Formentera Jr. was also raided.

Aside from Formentera, Jose Luchavez, Ceferino Dalumpenez, Julito Borgonio, Gerry Lakbayon and Reynaldo Guido were also arrested.

Police said masiao paraphernalia was also recovered from the houses of Luden and Formentera.

The raids were conducted based on the search warrants issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Gabriel Ingles of Branch 58 in Cebu City.

Police conducted the operation after they received reports of the suspects' alleged involvement in masiao.

Tindoy, Luchavez, Dalumpez, Borgonio, Lakbayon, Guido and Formentera were brought to Cebu City while the four others were detained at the San Francisco police station police said.

Allegedly recovered during the raids were four masiao tally sheets; seven carbon papers; one stub; several yellow pads; five ballpens; a pentel pen, a calculator; two booklets; several plastic packs and cash amounting P1,878 believed to be proceeds of masiao.

Senior Superintendent Carmelo Valmoria, provincial director of CPPO, could not verify the arrest of Tindoy pending confirmation from the arresting team.
