Philippines to receive 10 new patrol ships from Japan

By

Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines is acquiring 10 brand new patrol ships from Japan to boost the country’s territorial defense in the West Philippine Sea.

“Japan is offering assistance [to boost] our maritime capability,” Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin told reporters in a phone interview.

Vice Admiral Edmund Tan of the Philippine Coast Guard said the patrol ships will be used by the PCG.

The loan is now for approval of the National Economic Development Authority, Tan said.

Asked when the ships would arrive in the Philippines, Tan said it would depend on the “processing” of the papers.

“There’s still no approval,” he told reporters by phone. “We have to go to the process.”

Tan did not discuss further details.

In March, weeks before a standoff between China and Philippines began in the Scarborough Shoal, media reports in South Korea and Japan said Tokyo would provide the Philippines with patrol ships by year’s end.

The Japanese embassy in the Philippines on Thursday, however,  said Tokyo has “not yet officially decided” if it would provide patrol vessels to Manila.

Mabuti na yung may target kesa sa wala. Alangan nmng magsagwan yung mga sundalo nten?

  • alikabok357

    • keijhae

malamang kaya nga defense secretary eh sya tlaga magsasalita sa mga ganyan lalo nat malaking usapan yan

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_W7KL7PIACPEHNTZ2LYJD7XUBZA bogs

USELESS …. HINDI KAYO GAGALANGIN NYAN NG MGA TSEKWA … TATAWANAN LANG KAYO NYAN ….. waaaaahhhhhhhhh

    • keijhae

bakit nakita mu na ba ung patrol ships na yan ? kaya nga patrol ships eh so ibg sabhin may armas yan tsaka brand new yan hindi 2nd hand, hindi nyo pa nga nakikita dami nyo na gad sinasabi na negative tsk3x ..

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/2FURDT3X37FZBT5ZYECIVXHJ4A michael p

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/2FURDT3X37FZBT5ZYECIVXHJ4A michael p

Keijhae, kung may anti aircraft missile. Kaso, kahit pinaka modern na barko natin wala naka install na AA missile. Kahit guidance system wala. Sorry for the rant, chillax mode na ko ngayon. :)

      • keijhae

    • keijhae

bakit nakita mu na ba ung patrol ships na yan ? kaya nga patrol ships eh so ibg sabhin may armas yan tsaka brand new yan hindi 2nd hand, hindi nyo pa nga nakikita dami nyo na gad sinasabi na negative tsk3x ..

      • http://twitter.com/karasarasa leo mil lopez

  • murtson

If the patrol boats are similar to the ones used by the coast guard of Japan, then they are good. They are armed and fast. I don’t know if it’s the bigger type like the one that was rammed by a Chinese fishing boat at the Senkaku Island which has a heliport or the smaller patrol boats that keep the Japan territorial waters free from Chinese intrusions. They are armed.

What is funny is the gunless and systems-less warship that Obamaland is trying to mollify the Philippines.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/W76YPENWLH6HJ65K2BFB75T3PI Andrew Pc

I don’t whether Japan give or sell them to Philippine, just wanted to say it is a boat from Japan and a ship from the States…they are different.
But, like the Obamaland thing though.

Intsik, may pag asa tayo manalo?
Philippine Navy. May panlaban ba tayo doon? May fighter jets ba tayo na
kaya intercept bombers nila?

      • http://www.facebook.com/azure.dreams.ochre.skies Rein Luna

  • murtson

When the Philippine government say “assistance from a foreign country”, it means loan so taxpayers be ready with your unwanted role. The ten boats from Japan will certainly be a loan. Maybe with this mollification, the government will start protecting Japanese investments in the Philippines by “advising” the rebels (read as extortionists) to be easy with these companies. Hopefully what happened last year in Surigao will not be repeated again.

Honestly, I would say the government is under a laissez faire management. Jobbery is the one well managed by the friends and advisers of the Pwesident.

Guess what? PNoy, our Chinese President will not accept these 10 patrol boats for the simple reason that he is a puppet of China! Come to think of it, those Chinese Chemist who were caught producing illegal drugs are given “Red Carpet” treatment. In fact, those prisoners has cell phone and run the drug sale right inside the prison house in NBP in Muntinlupa. But it were a Filipino, imagine, snatcher ka lang, binabaril ka ng PNP sa likuran. Bawal yan………

We should watch what our President is up into. He declare fish ban in Scarborough yet the Chinese Fishermen, about 96 Chinese Fishing Boat is in the Shoal right now. Our President is committing TREASON.

Hindi mo ba alam, ang isang drug lord sa Munti, may cell phone, may refrigerator, may expensive na sound system, and he is running the illegal drugs inside the prison at NBP.

      • yonp

Lol! There is such thing as command responsibility. He he he!
