Malaysia to help Philippines identify dead extremists

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine military said Friday Malaysia would send forensics experts in an effort to obtain proof that Filipino forces had killed three of Southeast Asia’s most-wanted terror suspects.

The military said its US-backed airstrikes last week on a remote southern island killed three senior leaders from the Al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and Abu Sayyaf networks, as well as 12 junior figures.

But it was not able to immediately provide proof, with authorities saying bodies had been taken away by fellow militants and quickly buried in line with Muslim custom.

Philippine military spokesman Colonel Arnulfo Burgos said Friday police had gathered pieces of human tissue and blood after the strike on the southern island of Jolo.

Philippine police will now liaise with the Malaysian team over the forensic evidence, Burgos said.

“This would help the Armed Forces of the Philippines provide proof that the terrorists Mauwiyah and Marwan are already dead,” Burgos told reporters, without saying when the Malaysian team would arrive.

The highest-profile militant reported slain was Malaysian Zulkifli bin Abdul Hir, alias Marwan, one of the United States’ most-wanted terror suspects with a $5 million bounty on his head from the US government.

Zulkifli was one of JI’s top leaders and a bomb-making expert who had been hiding out in the southern Philippines since 2003, according to the US State Department.

The Malaysian forensics experts are expected to obtain DNA samples from Zulkifli’s relatives before they fly to the southern Philippines to compare samples, Burgos said.

Also reported killed was Singaporean Mohammad Ali, alias Muawiyah, another JI leader who had been hiding in the Philippines since the group killed 202 people in a series of bomb attacks on the Indonesian island of Bali in 2002.

The third senior militant reported killed was Filipino Abu Pula, also known as Doctor Abu or Umbra Jumdail, one of the core leaders of the Abu Sayyaf that is blamed for the worst terrorist attacks in the Philippines.

The US military, which has a small team of US Special Forces providing counter-terrorism training in the southern Philippines, helped in the attack by providing intelligence support, Filipino military officials said.

However the US government has declined to comment on whether the three senior terrorists suspects were definitely killed.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s senior advisor on political-military affairs, Andrew Shapiro, declined to discuss details of the incident when talking to reporters in Manila, deferring questions to the Philippine military.

Wala bang forensic experts ang AFP o ang Pilipinas na kailangan pang mag-import na Malaysian?  Itong AFP natin walang pride at dangal.  Laging nakatingala sa mga dayuhan.  Alam lang giyerahin ang kapwa Pilipino. Paano na tayo kapag kumatok na sa pinto ang China.

Malaysia showing nice to the Philippines…ahahaha..we will idintify your agents here in the southern Philppines that supports and train muslim insurgents here for waging war with Phil goverment…Malaysia is nothing without Sabah…Sabah will be back to Philippine soon when time come…

  • Anonymous

Take a stroll in Sabah today and you be surprised that even the rural villages has electircity and clean water supplies from the malaysian governments. If Sabah was still under Philippines, she would still be just like those in the south philippines who are still without electircity and water supply.

Ask any sabahans and even filipinos in sabah, they refused to return to be under Philippines rule. During the civil war in south Philippines tens of thousands filipinso fled to Sabah  both christians and muslims, and the Malaysian government and their people fed these tens of thousand filipinos depsite UN aids which wasnt enough to feed, Filipinos that still remain in Sabah who refused to return back to Philippines, they are allowed to go out from the camp homes  to work and earn. Some of us insult Malaysia while the malaysians are feeding our own kind. Instead we should also be thankful as many of the Malaysian Singaporeans Thais  our asean neighbours are generally sincere people with a big heart

I even know some of these peoples from our asean neighbours who are sending money over to Philippines to help our own filipinos on humanity ground, and they wish to remain amonyous. They had been consistently contributing for some years. In the end of the day, there are the good  the bad and the ugly in every race and pinoys are no different either,

A touching event changed my perception on our asean neighbours took place in Sabah. When tens of thousand of our fellow countrymen fled to Sabah during the south Philippines unrest, along with them were many childrens as well.

Babies were borned in the refegess camp that housed our fellow filipinos. and they were given medical attention. But what changed my perception was one day in one of their local newspaper, one of their malaysian reporter wrote an article on “CHILDREN WITHOUT DESTINY”

In the paprer there were pics of filipino kids living in the refugee camps, selling pirated cds, and what the reporter wrote touched many malaysian lives. The reporter wrote that these filipino chidlren specially thosee borned  in the refugee camp has no country to belong to, and as their future is bleak , therefore at least education ought to be provide for the filipino children in the camp

It touch many Malaysian hearts and their Mps as well, So they tried to file a petition to their government to work out something to provide education at least for the children in the refugess camp. This changed my perception as never to generalise any race since .

    Salamat

It should be Filipino muslim sabahans should benefit of the resources in Sabah not the Malaysian government

Even our white colony masters and the japs had raped our women. Really ,Is that because of Sabah Malaysia is rich, How do you know? Sabah was one of the poorest states in Malaysia until they decided to develop Sabah.
Seems to me you have deep hatred and envy towards their success. Blame on ourselves brother,

We had equal opportunity and we were once the second richest asian country after Japan even without Sabah  but we coudlnt handle as greed and craze for power overwhelmed us and its we ourselves who destroyed what we once were and had.

And now i hear you said it should be our muslim sabahan brothersthat should benefit and not the malaysians, but funny i recalled you as one of those who support to crush and death to all muslims when unfortunate event took place last year ( the ambushed of our soldiers by muslim insurgents in the south)

the truth is we filipino will always blame on others but ourselves

@dosdonts70:disqus don’t twist the fact,Malaysia now are trying to wage trouble in southern Philippines…if you read the wikileaks that has been revealed, there so many secret cabled from US EMbassy Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia..that there are Malaysian agents playing to sabotage the peace and order in southern Philippines.Supporting our local muslim bandits and MILF before to supply arms and ammunition waging war to Philippine government. Do you think our muslims insurgents can fund their owned arms? the leadership of MILF is just a money matters only, they are supported by haram Malaysia, they are not contented on Sabah, they want some part of southern Philippines to be controlled by MILF at the same time they(Malaysia) can also benefit of the resources since they are one who plan this.See? donsdon’t, you cannot twist the fact…if you are a Filipino shut up in defending Malaysia, i think you are Malaysian pretending Filipino…

You just dont read what i had posted  brother. i had posted that ever since what took place in Sabah was an eye openr for me which changed my perception on never to generalise any races.

What you had mentioned It is their governments and not the malaysian people , which unfortunately you are generalising  as a whole and throwing your hatred at. You know what, I was even accused of being a pinoy under disguised of trying to be a foreigner and im also being acussed  to be a foreigner that lives in Philippines and it shows how suspicious your mindset is working up against you right now.

Im defintely not in favour with their government but not with their people, not after what they tried to help our kind.
I for one wouldnt like if foreigner generalise on our kabayan brothers as a whole. Im pretty sure you wouldnt like either.

if you think that i am generalizing, it up to you brother….Malaysia is haram, their linkage in southern Philippines peace and order sabotage, many filipino muslim people displaced to their homes because they are intoxicated the mind of our local muslim brothers (MILF) to engage war if their demand will not be granted.Specially, the extremist bandits that still kidnapping and now spreading bad image on the Philippines in the south…why? i am mentioning it is their gov’t. even it is not a direct involvement on this, where their agents get order to the people or to their government and their military secret top brass? for me its from government and its military secret…i am right? for you brother you better wakeup or else a single stray bullet will hit you from back…
