Upsilon alumni hold global reunion
MANILA, Philippines—The Upsilon Sigma Phi Alumni Association, Inc. (USPAAI), in cooperation with the Upsilon Sigma Phi North America Alumni Association, Inc. and the Sigma Delta Phi Alumnae Association, Inc., is calling all Upsilonians and Sigma Deltans to attend the Global Reunion dubbed as “Arangkada sa Manila 2014.”
“Arangkada sa Manila promises to be a unique experience for brods and sis alike,” said Benedicto Tabin, chairman of the USPAAI, about the event that will be held from Wednesday to Saturday at various venues in Metro Manila.
“We have many activities lined up especially for our balikbayan brods and sis such as ‘Retro sa Metro’, the kick-off party to be held at Arts in the City BGC on January 29, ‘Ati-Atihan sa Diliman’ which will be held on January 30 at the UP Ang Bahay ng Alumni and sponsored by my batch, Batch 1964 in celebration of our 50th year in the Upsilon and Sigma Delta, ‘Lambingan sa Kambingan’ which will be held on January 31 in UP Los Baños, and the ‘Grand Ball’ which will be held on February 1 at the Marriott Hotel,” he said.
The Upsilon Sigma Phi, which was founded in 1918, and the Sigma Delta Phi, which was founded in 1933, are the oldest Greek-letter fraternity and sorority from the University of the Philippines.
“The Upsilon has contributed significantly to the life of the nation by producing leading lights in various fields of endeavor such as law, banking and finance, medicine, architecture and engineering, science and research, arts and culture, business and entrepreneurship and the academe,” said Jose “Pong” Ejercito, President of the USPAAI.
“Current celebrated alumni in public service include Netherlands Ambassador Jaime “Jet” Ledda, Lt. General Gregorio “Jun” Catapang, “Leyte Congressmen Martin Romualdez, Pasig Congressman Roman Romulo, Pampanga Congressman Juan Pablo Bondoc, Tarlac Governor Victor Yap, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, Palawan Vice-Governor Dennis Socrates, and a host of other dignitaries”, Ejercito continued.

Beth Bacungan-Macaibay named several current dignitaries and renowned alumnae sisters from their own fold, Filinvest Owner and Entrepreneur Mercedes Gotianun, Economist and TV Host Solita “Winnie” Monsod, ABS-CBN Anchorwoman Ces Orena-Drilon, and former gymnast Bea Lucero-Lhuillier.
