EU sympathizes with Bohol quake victims

MANILA, Philippines – The European Union (EU) has expressed its sympathies for those affected by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Bohol and said that this was another challenge to the Filipinos “well-known resilience.”

“The Ambassador of the EU Guy Ledoux today (Wednesday) offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the earthquake that caused devastation across several islands in the Visayas,” EU said in a statement Wednesday.

“In these challenging days Filipinos and their communities are charged once again to draw on their well known resilience” he said.

At least 110 people were killed with hundreds more injured from the quake that hit Bohol, levelling centuries-old churches and severely damaging roads, bridges, and other structures.

Nearby cities and provinces such as Cebu were also affected by the quake that occured 33 kilometers below the town of Carmen in, Bohol.

“Ambassador Ledoux also expressed his sympathies with those Filipinos who have suffered injuries or lost their homes or livelihoods due to the extensive damage caused by the quake,” the EU said.

Earlier, the United States Embassy and the British Embassy also extended their condolences to the victims of the quake.
