DOTC personnel involved in escape of Korean investment scam suspect

MANILA, Philippines—Personnel from the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) were also involved in the escape of a fugitive Korean, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said Tuesday.

A footage from the closed circuit television at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport showed that personnel from the DOTC’s Office of Transport Security helped Park Sung Jun leave the Philippines.

“It is obvious from the video that they are in cahoots with the Immigration personnel,” De Lima said.

Aside from the CCTV footage, the Department of Justice also received information of the DOTC personnel’s involvement in the escape Park Sung Jun, she said.

“I already gave a heads up to DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya for the cooperation of the Office of Transport Security,” De Lima told reporters.

Park Sung Jun, who is wanted in South Korea over an investment scam and was the subject of a manhunt operation by the Bureau of Immigration, sneaked out of the country last March 18.
