MANILA, Philippines—The National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday rescued an 8-year-old Burmese boy kidnapped by unidentified men in Biñan, Laguna, last week.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said NBI operatives found the victim inside a shanty at a low-cost housing area in Tanay, Rizal, around 9:30 a.m.

“No ransom was involved,” De Lima said in a text message to the Inquirer.

“Acting on an asset’s tip, the NBI confirmed last night the location of the boy and his abductors. I authorized the rescue operations, with strict instruction that the boy’s safety should be paramount,” she added.
