PNP: PH is ‘calm,’ no reports of harassment of Chinese nationals

The Philippine National Police maintained on Thursday, April 3, 2025, that it had no reports of harassment of Chinese nationals in the country, as it described as a “quiet and calm” security situation here.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) says it has no reports of harassment of Chinese nationals in the country, as it describes the security situation here as “quiet and calm.”

This developed after China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an advisory warning its citizens about traveling to the Philippines due to a supposedly unstable security situation and growing harassment of Chinese nationals.

“There are no reports like those being claimed… The PNP will protect whatever interests the Philippines have. And whoever violates the law, whether you are a local or an alien, you will be held accountable to the law,” the PNP Public Information Office chief, Col. Randulf Tuaño, said in Filipino in a press briefing in Camp Crame on Thursday.

“The security situation remains quiet and calm. No [threat] is being monitored, according to the last command conference held, based on the report of our Directorate for Intelligence,” he added.

INQUIRER.net sought comment from the Chinese Embassy in Manila following the PNP statement, but it has not responded as of press time.

The statement shared by the Chinese embassy on Wednesday advised its nationals to assess the travel risks and “reconsider” their plans.

However, the Chinese foreign ministry did not cite specific incidents to back up its claim of an unstable security situation and the growing harassment of its nationals in the country.
