MANILA, Philippines — Two foreign fugitives were arrested in Manila for overstaying and their alleged involvement in economic crimes, said the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Monday.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado identified the suspects as Chinese national Su Yan, 47, and Hong Kong national Hui Chi Lam, 55.

According to Viado, the two were arrested in their residence at a condominium in Tondo, Manila upon a mission order issued at the request of the Chinese government.

“They will be deported for being undesirable aliens and their names will be included in our blacklist, banning them from re-entering the Philippines,” Viado said in a statement.

BI-fugitive search unit acting chief Rendel Ryan Sy said both Su and Hui are facing arrest warrants issued by the public security bureau of Luxi County in Jianxi, China on March 17 for allegedly colluding to sell financial products to investors without the required qualifications and permits from the proper government agencies.

The two suspects reportedly amassed profits of more than 59 million yuan, or roughly $8.2 million since 2018.
