Over 200 police deployed for Asia-Pacific disaster mitigation conference

The Southern Police District (SPD) has deployed over 200 personnel to ensure public safety during the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), which opens on Monday, October 14.

MANILA, Philippines —  The Southern Police District (SPD) has deployed over 200 personnel to ensure public safety during the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), which opens on Monday, October 14.

The conference, which will run until October 18, is themed “Surge to 2030: Enhancing ambition in Asia-Pacific to accelerate disaster risk reduction.” It aims to provide a critical platform for reviewing risk reduction efforts, exploring innovative solutions, and making commitments to minimize disaster risks by 2030 in one of the world’s most disaster-prone regions.

“In response to the significance of this international event, SPD has mobilized a dedicated team of 269 personnel,” the police district said.

“These police officers will be deployed across various key areas, including the Multi-Agency Coordinating Center, Police Assistance Desks, venue and perimeter security, and mobile patrols. Specialized units, including medical teams and EOD/K9 (K9/Explosive Ordnance Disposal) units, will also be present to ensure a comprehensive security approach,” it added.

According to SPD, it also directed all dispatched personnel to support their fellow officers, particularly those assigned to man police assistance desks, billets, and route deployments when needed.
