MANILA, Philippines — Sen. JV Ejercito revealed that he has met elected Philippine officials who are obviously Chinese nationals, raising the possibility that the Alice Guo case might not be an isolated incident.

At the Kapihan sa Senado forum on Wednesday, Ejercito referred to these individuals as “China men.”

“I am a national official, may mga nakikilala [at] nami-meet din akong officials ngayon na alam kong China man. Kasi alam mo, malalaman mo eh. I came from a Chinese school, I can distinguish — yung accent, yung itsura those who are really Chinoys yung talagang dito na ipinanganak at dito na lumaki at yung mga tinatawag na talagang dayo lamang,” said Ejercito.

(I am a national official and I know and I have met local officials whom I know are China men. Because you’ll know. I came from a Chinese school, I can distinguish the accent and the looks of those who are really Chinoys, those who are really born and raised here, and those that are only visiting.)

At this point, Ejercito was pressed to disclose whether or not these elected Chinese nationals are holding national positions, but the senator answered in the negative.

“Elected official. Hindi naman national [position],” he said. (They are elected officials, but they are not holding national positions.)

Ejercito’s exposé came after he was asked to comment on Wang Fu Gui’s revelation that Guo, the dismissed Bamban mayor, is indeed a Chinese spy.

Wang was a former cellmate of She Zhijiang — a self-confessed Chinese spy who is also a central figure to a documentary released by Qatar-based media network Al Jazeera.

Wang said he was entrusted by She to handle some of the latter’s declassified matters, during which he discovered Guo’s classified documents.

Ejercito said there is a need for the country’s investigative agencies, particularly the National Bureau of Investigation, Department of National Defense, and National Security Council to delve deeper into Wang’s revelation.

He also expressed his intention to question Guo’s predecessor in Bamban town, wanting to understand how Guo, a Chinese national, was able to assume the position of mayor.

“Because of the situation again in the West Philippine Sea, with China — yung ating conflict, baka mamaya nilalagyan [o] pina-plantahan na tayo ng agents nila who will run as officials,” said Ejercito.
